Take all e-commerce companies in the Western world. That is roughly 100,000 good contacts, and if you load them into one campaign and blast, you are spam. Here are the six ways we cut a TAM that size into small, relevant campaigns, and the tool for each.

FILLED EXAMPLE (100,000 e-commerce contacts, sliced):

  1. By industry. Split the TAM into about 15 industries, one campaign each. Roofing gets a roofing email, dental gets a dental email. Pull this from your enrichment data or Apollo firmographics.
  2. By technology. Shopify vs Magento vs other platforms. A brand on Shopify has different problems than one on Magento. Detect the tech stack with a tech-lookup tool, then write to the stack.
  3. By ad platform. Running Meta vs Google vs LinkedIn vs running no ads at all. Each is a separate campaign because each says something different about how they acquire. Identify it from ad-library and page data.
  4. By falling SEO. Brands whose rankings are slipping or whose traffic is decreasing. Pull this from SEMrush. "Noticed your organic traffic slid over the last quarter" works as an angle because it names something they are living through.
  5. By new marketing hire. A company that just added someone in marketing leadership is a small batch and its own campaign. New hires want early wins, so the timing is the relevance.
  6. Lookalikes. Build a campaign that goes only to lookalikes of your best-fit accounts.

Each one of these is a full loop. You build the list, write copy for that specific segment, run the play, and then read the results before deciding what is next.

YOUR TURN (10 minutes): Fill in the campaign planner for YOUR TAM.

My TAM is: ______________________ (approx size: __________ )

• Industry split → how many industries? ______ • Technology split → which platforms/tools? ______ • Ad-platform split → Meta / Google / LinkedIn / none? ______ • Falling-SEO segment (SEMrush) → yes / no ______ • New-hire segment → which role signals? ______ • Lookalike segment → based on which best-fit accounts? ______

If you cannot fill in at least four of these six, your TAM is not the problem. Your knowledge of your TAM is.

KEY TAKEAWAY: One TAM is not one campaign. It is 15-80 campaigns waiting for you to define the angle.

Now that you have your list of segments, the next question is which ones deserve more of your time. The numbers make that call for you.
